First, what's wrong with using OmniRig?

Think of your local CW Skimmer as a DX cluster server, not a rig controller
or usable waterfall display (range is too limited).

Start DXLog.net first, so that it grabs the rig's COM port (when not using
OmniRig). Start CW Skimmer second. If hardware type is set to "3-kHz
radio" or "Softrock IF", CW Skimmer will try to open the ports via OmniRig,
but that will fail. But it will carry on.

Make sure the Telnet server is enabled (telnet tab of CW Skimmer settings
dialog).

Tell DXLog.net to connect to the "ip address" *localhost* port *7300*.
localhost is a hard-coded server name for your local PC at address
127.0.0.1. You can always ping localhost, even if you aren't connected to
the Internet.

The CW Skimmer spots will then fill your DXLog.net band map and Alt-A (DX
Announcements) windows. Click on a skimmer spot in the band map or
announcements window to move your radio to the right frequency.

Now, if you're trying to get the cursor of CW Skimmer to follow your radio
or pick clear spots to CQ, then you'll probably have to go back to using
OmniRig. And that will only work if your radio type is set to "3-kHz
radio" or "Softrock IF".
