I think it is rather since the mailman robot used for the reflector is a
very old version, 2.1.12, which has several known security issues.
Also, it does not seem to support the kind of authentication/verification
that google mail and other services rely on.

Basically all major ham related reflectors have migrated to groups.io these
days.
