Hi,
I am an IC-706mk2 owner and seeing the same, or worse, situation.
I use a less-than-ideal USB serial converter with a chip of an obscure
make (not FTDI, nor Prolific).
It already caused a problem with N1MM Logger and FT-857 but the same
converter has somehow worked so far flawlessly with 706mk2 and N1MM,
TR4W, QARTest, 5MContest, HamRadioDeluxe and others. Some use Omni-Rig
while others have a proprietary CAT control.
I have learnt that generally this type of CAT problems involve other
issues that are not under programmer's control, eg. driver, OS
related, how particular language handles serial communication in its
libraries, etc.
So the next action obviously is to try with a better USB serial that
has FTDI chip, which for me is not easy because my 706mk2 is set up in
my car and CI-V control is somehow 'hard-wired' from boot to cockpit
using the above obscure cable. This is my problem.
Back to the situation I saw.
In my case DXL's CAT never worked with the above settings. It finds
frequency very rarely at the startup, and even if it finds, soon loses
it after several seconds. I tried Omni-Rig but it also never worked.
It was curious that in the same setup Omni-Rig works with other
software.
I went back home and tested with FT-1000MP MkV and a Prolific cable. I
found DXL's CAT works without issue.
I also have IC-9100 and an identical obscure cable at home so I will
test with them to see if the problem is ICOM related, eg. particular
to the CI-V timing routine. Removing 706mk2 from my mobile for testing
purpose is a big hassle to me and wish to be avoided.
