Jim:
"...do mobile stations change the report in the software when they
change county?" Absolutely, and the score is incremented accordingly
with each new QSO in a different county. As soon as I go across the
county line from Indian River to Brevard county, the report changes from
599IDR to 599BRE. Plus, the F1 CQ message changes too. This same
action happens with each change of county. In a typical weekend, we
will go through 40 to 50+ counties.
As for your second question, I can not speak specifically to it, other
than I believe QSOs count for dual counties and QSOs if you are on a
county boundary (check out 25 deg, 48.320' N and 80 deg, 52.386' W, the
intersection of Monroe, Collier, and Miami-Dade counties and in the
boondocks of the Everglades). Some mobile stations only visit a limited
number of locations and try to hit as many multiple boundary locations
as possible. On the other hand, other mobiles stay in motion the
majority of the time and try to visit a larger number of counties.
